Cup of Living Water : Success Stories

Success is often determined by a job done well. On March 20, 2007, Cup of Living Water enjoyed the opportunity of recognizing the success of our student/learners for their accomplishments over the past four months. Each of whom has done well in building skills and gaining knowledge of the English language.

November 6, 2006, was the official opening day for CLW. We began that Monday night tutoring English as a Second Language (ESL) and Adult Literacy to 6 full-time student/learners. They come from three different, non-English speaking countries with each of them possessing different knowledge levels regarding the English language. Twice a week for an hour each session, volunteer tutors meet to encourage, support, mentor and display friendship to their student/learners. Not only are the student/learners learning English, they are also experiencing genuine friendship.

During March, after four months of tutoring, student/learners were given their first national standard assessment tests. All of them were nervously eager to perform well - even their tutors. Everyone anxiously wanted to see how he or she had improved. Gratefully, solid improvement was successfully accomplished by all student/learners. The lowest grade of the group was just 80%. 100% of our student/learners improved - even though several started our program without any ability to speak English at all. Tutors, Board Members and Community members helped celebrate their achievements with a dinner and recognition ceremony on Tuesday, March 20th. The wonderful event was very memorable and significant, especially to the student/learners.
